Grant-in-Aid for Transformative Research Areas (A)
The purpose of this Research Area is to explore the skillful environmental and situational adaptive abilities expressed at the cellular level (here we call this "proto-intelligence") and to write down these abilities in a dynamical model. To this end, we will establish "diorama behavioral studies" and "coupled environmental dynamics" as methodologies, and create a new academic field, " Ethological dynamics in diorama environments" based on these studies. This is expected to clarify the mechanism of Proto-Intelligence. It is also expected to advance the technology of prediction and control of microbial behavior and provide knowledge that will contribute to overcoming health and environmental problems that develop in the panoramic environment (natural environment).
We will examine the effectiveness of Ethological dynamics in diorama environments by focusing on three areas: environmental red tide by microalgae, sperm motility in reproduction, and the search for novel cellular behaviors.
